It is with heavy hearts that we announce the cancellation of our Junior and June Camps for this summer. We have emailed all of our camp families with information about this change and wanted to let our greater Greystone community know as well.
Making this decision was very difficult. We have spent the last few weeks researching every possibility with the hope that we could open camp for our Junior and June campers. However, with the limitations on group size, social distancing requirements, travel restrictions, and the reality of our early start dates, opening our Junior and June Camps safely is just not possible. Even though we feel overwhelming sadness, we’re confident that this is the best decision for the health and safety of our community.
To hear from Jimboy and Dr. Margaret about this decision, please watch this video:
We are heartbroken with you about this cancellation. Just last year, we were celebrating 100 years at camp and thanking God for his faithfulness over many generations. Though this season is difficult, we take comfort knowing that God has not changed! He has provided for this place for over a century and is not going to stop now. He is kind. He has us in His hands. And He is working all of this for our good and His glory, even now.
We are still hopeful that we can open our Main and August Camp sessions this summer. The spread of this disease changes rapidly, and we are monitoring the situation closely. We remain in close contact with the CDC and NC Department of Health, and we are researching every scenario that would make it possible for us to welcome campers for these sessions. If we can open camp this summer, we will! We will make a decision about Main Camp by June 1 and August Camp by July 1.
So where does that leave camp? Canceling sessions puts us in a very challenging financial position. But as always, we are trusting the Lord throughout all aspects of this situation. It’s not an accident that before any of this, we chose Philippians 4:6-7 as our theme verse for the summer:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Though we’re feeling every emotion right now, we have rested in His greater peace throughout this process. We are so grateful for our Greystone community and your friendship and support during this time. We are praying for you, and ask that you join us in praying for camp as well. We trust a God that is bigger than this pandemic, and we rely on Him now.
Lots of love Greystone girls!
